All day long there are a gazillion things distracting you from your motivation to work out. Perhaps you’re tired from your job, or a rerun of The Real Housewives of New Jersey is taunting you from your DVR. Luckily for you, I’ve put together some handy dandy tips for staying on track when it comes to your workouts. Take that, tiring job.
Pencil It In
Treat your workout like an important appointment. Add it to your calendar, whether it be to your Google docs, or your iPhone, or physically writing it down on a wall calendar like it’s the early ’90s and smartphones don’t yet exist. Set reminders on your Outlook calendar at work. Bug yourself about it constantly. Remember: it’s an appointment not to miss.
It Takes Two To Tango
You’re less likely to skip a workout if you commit to working out with someone else. Call up a friend with similar fitness goals and ask he/she to join you for your workouts. Hold each other accountable to show up each and every time. For bonus points, add a penalty of 30 pushups if someone breaks a commitment. Oh yeah, I went there.
Make It Routine
Decide on which days each week you can usually squeeze in a workout. Have an underwater basket weaving class on Monday nights? No biggie. Just plan to work out on Tuesdays. Soon you’ll build a weekly routine that will be hard to break.
