Women Who Inspire: Meet SkinnyRunner
If you’ve ever questioned whether or not you should lace up your running shoes and go for a jog, Sarah Moore’s uh-mazing accomplishments will give you the push, or shove, you need to get out the door.
Only having run an occasional 3 or 4 miles at a time, Sarah, aka Skinny Runner, naively agreed to join her friend and race the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in fall 2008. Her summer leading up to the race was spent with family in Alaska and didn’t include any training except one 30 minute treadmill run leading up to the big day. Lo and behold, Sarah ran the entire 13.1 miles and admits she even liked it! Granted, they were handing out Tiffany & Co. necklaces at the finish line…a nice incentive if we do say so ourselves!
Fast forward to today and she has run 31 half marathons and 41 marathons (yup, you read that right) since then. She ran her first full marathon (that’s 26.2 miles!) in December 2009 and has since run 12-15 a year. She has qualified for Boston, New York, and even won some smaller races in California.
Sarah admits that running has changed her life in ways she never thought possible. She has a newfound sense of self-confidence and feels passion and joy for her hobby. She has also taken her love for the sport and created her own successful blog, SkinnyRunner, to track her workouts, races, and daily mileage.
While she clearly benefits from the positive effects of running (aka, she has a bangin’ bod) she also wants to encourage women to know that the outside stuff like weight and appearance isn’t everything. It might seem important at the time, but life is about so much more!
When Sarah isn’t running you can find her buried in a trashy magazine, walking her dog, or popping champagne…a woman after our own heart.
