Hot workout classes are the new bread and butter of the city’s fitness scene (that’s right — we eat carbs, and we like it).
Welcome to Hot Figure Four, a heated version of Pure Yoga’s popular barre class. As if the traditional barre class — with its thigh-shaking toning moves and gut-busting ab maneuvers — wasn’t challenging enough. But we’re addicted to it.
Heat allows "for more intensity, deeper burn, and reaching more intrinsic muscle fibers,” said Figure Four creator Kate Albarelli. The heat helps purge the muscles of lactic acid and helps students push past their normal limits, Kate said.
The addition of heat not only means more calories get burned, but it allows you to take your workout one step further. “Figure Four is all about working into self-awareness, finding one’s limit, and pushing an inch beyond it,” Kate said. “The heat adds an element of quiet power, where the already amazing sense of completion and exhilaration one feels after a Figure Four class is intensified.” It’s like getting the benefits of a hot yoga class with the challenging moves of a ballet class.
We feel cleansed already.
