Fashion Friday: Ball So Hard
We won’t lie, when we first saw all the looks going down the red carpet at the Met Ball, we thought that there must have been a jailbreak at the NYC Looney Bin. But our worries subsided when we noticed that Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes weren’t there, and we quickly realized that the stars were just playing out the Punk: Chaos to Couture theme of the evening.
With black, white, and studs all over — even the most demure of celebs showed off their edgier side. And while most of the looks were certainly too wild to be worn day-to-day, there were some that we will definitely be drawing inspiration from. Here are some of our favorite looks and how you can re-create them in real life!
Rooney Mara in Givenchy
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star contrasted her white lace Givenchy number with statement dark brows, oxblood lips, and a slicked back multi-pony to create a faux-hawk illusion. We’re loving this form-fitting white lace mini from Nasty Gal, with just enough structure to create an edgy rather than “babydoll” look. Pair it with your favorite oxblood lip color (we love Revlon Super Lustrous in Black Cherry) and slick your hair into a low bun to channel Ms. Mara!
Emma Watson in Prabal Gurung
Midriff was the main attraction at the Met Ball this year, and Emma owned it in her black Prabal Gurung number. Just like Em, you can show a little skin without revealing too much in this Silence and Noise Laser Beam dress with mesh insets and a criss cross back. Top off your asymmetrical look with a low loose bun and shoulder-grazing earrings like this pair from Nasty Gal.
Sienna Miller in Burberry
Sienna experienced a serious spike in her coolness factor when she added this embellished leather jacket to her otherwise blah white dress. Forego the jacket and shine up your shoulders with this mini dress from Nasty Gal featuring gold beading and cool cutouts in the back. Toss on a spiked headband like this one from Urban Outfitters to punk up your look!
Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy
We loved the nature-inspired earth tone print of Amanda’s Givenchy gown, but our favorite part was the unique back of the dress. Get the look with the Dorothy Peplum dress from BCBG, which has a super cute racerback-esque design to put those shoulder blades on display. Keep your makeup neutral, but wing out your black eyeliner to up the drama!
