Find Your Chia
We loved to grow them in the ’90s. The jingle was insanely catchy in a slightly annoying yet awesomely addictive way. And now — surprisingly — trainers, dietitians, doctors, and fitness professionals alike just can’t get enough of this smashing little seed. Yes, you heard that correctly, ladies: seed. Now, what could we possibly be talking about, you ask? Why, ch-ch-ch-chia seeds, of course!
OK, so we totes know what you’re thinking right about now: That is trés disgusting. Those seeds grow grass-like hair on little clay gnomes and Shrek heads, why would I want to eat them? But au contraire, pretty ladies — not only are chia seeds loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, but they also contain protein, fiber, and antioxidants! Oh, and did we mention that because chia seeds are 20% protein, the ancient Aztecs considered them a highly coveted super food? And trust us — those people definitely knew what they were doing.
So forget the flax, because 2013 is all about the chia seed relapse! Read on for four recipes that are so good, they may even get you some sax (OK sorry — that was bad, but we just couldn’t help ourselves).
